ST Gardening Tools / Seasonal Planning Guide
Plan Your Hedge Trimming Schedule
Choose the month and type of hedge for trimming, then verify local wildlife and regulations that may affect your plans.
01 / Verify Your Timing
What type of hedge do you intend to trim?
This is a general guideline. Factors such as species, flowering, fruiting, nesting behavior, and climate can influence the best timing.
Confirm Before You Cut
Inspect for active nests prior to hedge work. If an active nest is discovered, refrain from disturbing it and delay any nearby work until it is no longer active. The primary nesting season typically spans from March to August, but nesting can occur outside of these months as well.
In England, seasonal cutting restrictions may apply to qualifying hedgerows adjacent to agricultural land; these do not necessarily apply to every hedge in a residential garden. Check current regulations relevant to your situation before proceeding with any work.
